I began a 6 year part-time BA(Hons) Artist Design Maker: Glass & Ceramics at the University of Sunderland in 2019. Aged 57, following major changes in my life, it was both nerve-racking and exciting.

Learning skills in both glass and ceramic initially, I specialised in ceramics. I prefer direct contact with the clay, being able to handle and manipulate it, whether hand building, slip casting or on a potters wheel.
My focus is on surface decoration of the pieces I create, and I am constantly exploring new techniques and processes to find my own style and preferences.

The aesthetic of pieces can be colourful, bright, bold, muted, or natural depending on the purpose of the piece and what I wish to convey to the viewer. I aim to evoke a desire to touch or pick up the artwork, to examine its layers closely and experience the smooth glossy surface or carved/rough texture.
Personal connection is vital to me when creating pieces which is reflected in their shape, colour, pattern design, marks or texture. I draw inspiration from personal experiences, memories, possessions, art and nature.

Having graduated with a First Class degree in July 2025, I am looking to develop the work I created as a student for my degree show.

They say as you get older your life gets smaller. Mine has certainly expanded and become so much richer. I hope that this continues along with my ceramic journey.

I hope you enjoy looking at my work.
