Penultimate - Glass & Ceramics Degree Show 2025

"Fragments" a body of work made for the final module of my degree, was exhibited alsongisde other students at The National Glass Centre in June 2025.
This collection of terracotta ceramics acts as a tangible canvas for preserving memories of landscapes that hold personal significance. Much like memory itself, landscapes shift over time - some remain vivid and detailed, others fade into hazy impressions, while some fragment or become distorted. The Highland and Island landscapes represented in this body of work reflect these variations.
To capture the essence of memory, five-minute sketches were drawn from recollection, resulting in simplified, abstracted images used to prompt viewers to question and interpret what they see. The three large press-moulded vessels, with imagery only partially revealed, encourage movement around them, reinforcing the sensation of a shifting landscape gradually revealing itself.
The complementing nine slab-built plates create a ‘memory wall,’ echoing the experience of a series of photographs. Each ceramic form is enriched with layers of coloured slips, underglazes, oxides, and sgraffito techniques, building depth and texture, and is finished with a transparent glaze.
